Requirements for Registration The organization seeking registration or registered by AWM must: 1. make all necessary arrangements for the conduct of the audit, including provisions for examining documentation and the audit of all areas, records and personnel for the purposes of audit, surveillance, re-audit and resolution of complaints; 2. claim that it is registered only in respect to activities for which it has been granted registration; 3. not use its registration in such a manner as to bring AWM into disrepute and not make any statement regarding its registration which AWM may consider misleading or unauthorized; 4. upon suspension or withdrawal of its registration, however determined, discontinue its use of all advertising matter that contains any reference thereto and return any registration documents as required by AWM; 5. use registration only to indicate that the EMS is in conformance with the specified standard, and not use its registration to imply that a product or service is approved or registered by AWM; and 6. ensure that no registration document, registration mark or report nor any part thereof is used in a misleading manner; and 7. in making reference to its registration status in communication media such as documents, brochures or advertising, comply with the requirements of AWM. 8. with regard to communications to the registered organization from external interested parties, make available to AWM records of all communications and action taken in accordance with the requirements of the EMS standard or other normative documents. EMS registration shall be granted only if: 1. the organization has demonstrated that the EMS has been implemented and conforms with ISO 14001; 2. a written commitment for timely corrective action has been received from the organization for all identified nonconformances, and all major nonconformances have been eliminated; 3. AWM has justified confidence that the commitment to compliance with regulatory requirements, continual improvement, and prevention of pollution has been incorporated into the EMS and has been demonstrated; 4. the organization’s staff has been made aware of the organization’s EMS and its objectives and received relevant training; and 5. key staff (those involved in managing significant environmental aspects) have received appropriate training. Use of the AWM Certification Mark ®1. A registered organization may use the Advanced Waste Management Systems, Incorporated (AWM) certification mark only in conjunction with its own mark on its certificates, stationery and literature associated with its registered activities, subject to the conditions below. 2. The AWM certification mark shall be reproduced: - in black, or in green, or in the predominant color of the letterhead or printing, - on a clearly contrasting background, - in a size which makes all features of the mark clearly distinguishable. 3. The AWM certification mark shall not be used by a registered organization on any document unless the document relates in whole or in part to activities of the organization which are registered under AWM. This shall not prevent a registered organization from including the certification mark on its preprinted letterhead paper. 4. AWM's mark shall not be used on a product or in such a way as to suggest that AWM has certified or approved any product, process or service of a registered organization, or in any other misleading manner. 5. If necessary, other requirements with regard to the use of marks will be developed in consultation with individual organizations. Such requirements will be made part of the registration agreement, and the registered organization will immediately be subject to such requirements. 6. Misuse of the certification mark will lead to corrective action by AWM including publication of the misuse and, if necessary, legal action.
Complaints 1. The registered organization shall keep a record of all complaints relative to registration by AWM and resultant remedial actions. 2. The registered organization shall provide complainants with information necessary for them to contact AWM if they desire.
1. The certification mark and registration certificate are property of AWM. The registered organization shall surrender upon demand all copies of the AWM registration certificate. 2. In the event of a withdrawal of registration, AWM shall issue a report detailing the cause for withdrawal. The registered organization named shall discontinue its use of all material that contains any reference to registration by AWM and shall return any registration documents to AWM.
1. If AWM determines it is necessary to suspend registration, AWM shall issue a report detailing the cause of suspension and the corrective action necessary to reinstate. 2. Registration may be suspended or withdrawn if invoices for registration services are not paid by the client under the terms specified on the invoice. 3. Upon notification of suspension of registration, the registered organization shall discontinue the publicity of registration in any advertising literature until notified of reinstatement.
1. If the registered organization a) adds products or processes which were not included in the most recent audit, and which involve environmental aspects which have or can have substantial impacts on the environment, or b) makes modifications to existing products or processes which were not included in the most recent audit, and which involve environmental aspects which have or can have substantial impacts on the environment, the registered organization shall notify AWM within 30 days. AWM shall make a determination, based upon the notification by the registered organization, on whether or not the modification(s) require a re-audit. 2. If a change in ownership occurs that leads to identification of registration with a new corporation, the registered organization shall notify AWM within 30 days. This is also applicable to changes in name.
1. Continued registration of the registered organization is contingent upon successful completion of regularly-scheduled surveillance audits conducted by AWM. Surveillance of a registered organization’s environmental management system shall be performed either annually (Option A) or semi-annually (Option B), with both options requiring a full re-audit every three years. 2. Surveillance and/or audit frequencies shall be modified by mutual agreement between AWM and the registered organization. 3. Any voluntary change in registration body may require a full re-registration to be performed by the new registration body. Understanding of the requirements for registration and of the rights and duties of registered organizations is hereby acknowledged. This is not a contract for services and does not imply any obligation on the part of the applicant or AWM.
